Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took a jab at senior party leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday for frequently praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that for some individuals, Modi takes precedence. Kharge's comment comes amidst increasing visible disagreements between Tharoor and the Congress party.
The central government has selected Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor to spearhead the all-party delegation for Operation Sindoor. In response, Kharge has criticized Tharoor, as well as PM Modi.
Speaking at a press conference, he remarked, "Shashi Tharoor's English is impeccable; hence, he is part of the Congress Working Committee. I mentioned in Gulbarga that we speak with one voice, we stand united for the nation. We were united during Operation Sindoor. We asserted that the country comes first, yet some assert 'Modi first, country later.' So, what should we do?"
He accused the Election Commission of becoming puppets under the Modi government, stating, "Narendra Modi claims victory in elections, while when Rahul Gandhi raised questions, the ED had no answers. Currently, the Election Commission has reduced itself to being Modi's puppet."
Kharge further expressed, "Narendra Modi is campaigning in Bihar, you're not winning the elections, the machines are. The Prime Minister issued a new notice on the 50th anniversary of Emergency, claiming that during the Emergency the Constitution was destroyed, and now, trust in the constitution has been restored. Every state should commemorate Constitution Murder Day."
The Congress President pointed out that those who contributed nothing to the country's independence are speaking against the constitution. The BJP is uneasy with the 'Save Constitution March.' Those failing in governance have no answers for inflation, unemployment, or demonetization. You don't attend all-party meetings, convened a meeting in Pahalgam, and went off rallying."
