IMD Alert:

North India’s plains are presently facing a brutal heatwave. The ferocious loo wind escalates temperatures quickly after sunrise, posing challenges for those venturing outdoors. The Meteorological Centre advises no respite from the intense heat and loo in the plains of North India anytime soon.

The direct sunlight on the earth's surface in the plains is causing a rise in temperatures. The combination of dry, hot westerly winds and clear skies is leading to increased solar radiation heat in certain areas, resulting in significantly higher temperatures.

Even the mountainous regions are not spared, with several Himachal cities issuing heatwave alerts due to soaring temperatures. Despite the extreme heat, tourists continue to flock to Shimla. Yesterday (June 14), Himachal Pradesh’s Una recorded a temperature of 43.6°C, higher than Rajasthan’s Bikaner and Bihar’s Chapra and Patna.
