In Greater Noida's Ecotech-3 area near Delhi, a man was arrested following a police encounter for the murder of a 37-year-old woman. The arrested suspect is identified as 38-year-old Mukim from Dadri. He brutally murdered his girlfriend, Shabnam, by slashing her throat and was on the run since then. During a police encounter on Thursday, he was shot in the leg.
On July 4th, a blood-soaked body of a woman named Shabnam was found in Nirmal Vihar Colony of the Ecotech-3 area. Police investigations revealed that her throat was cut with a sharp weapon. Her son suspected that his mother was murdered as part of a premeditated conspiracy. The police registered a case and formed two teams to search for the accused.
On Thursday morning, while a police team was checking vehicles near Choganpur roundabout, a suspicious person on a Pulsar bike was signaled to stop. However, the man attempted to flee, leading to a chase and exchange of gunfire. The man was injured in his leg and fell off the bike.
The police arrested him at the scene. During interrogation, Mukim made a startling revelation. He confessed to being in a romantic relationship with Shabnam, which his wife and children opposed. To sever ties with his girlfriend, he plotted to murder her. Under the pretense of meeting, he called Shabnam to his rented room and brutally killed her with a knife.
After the murder, he went into hiding, moving between various locations. However, surveillance helped to trace his location. After the police encounter, a pistol, a live .315 bore cartridge, an empty shell, the knife used in the murder, and the Pulsar motorcycle were recovered. Mukim, in an injured state, was admitted to a hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Noida DCP Shakti Mohan Awasthi confirmed the incident, stating, “On July 4th, information regarding a woman’s murder was received. Based on her son's complaint, a case was registered, and the search for the accused began. The accused was arrested after a police encounter, and the weapon used in the murder was recovered. He will be interrogated post-treatment.”
