MBBS student Janishur Alam, also known as Nisar Alam, was released by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday evening after being detained for questioning in West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district. Alam is a student at Al-Falah University in Haryana and is currently residing in Ludhiana. His ancestral village is near Dalkhola in Dinajpur, where he was attending a wedding ceremony with his mother and sister.
NIA Interrogates Alam
According to news agency reports, NIA detained Alam on Friday morning from Surajpur Bazaar area. The agency had been monitoring his mobile location amidst suspicions over his activities. Officials stated that Alam was returning from the wedding when the NIA team intercepted him. Initial questioning took place at the NIA office in Siliguri.
Police officials noted that Alam was released on Saturday evening after questioning, but his mobile phone and some documents were confiscated. The agency clarified that the investigation is ongoing and he may be summoned again if required.
Medical Student's Mobile Seized
NIA is also probing any direct or indirect links Alam might have to the recent Delhi blast. Officials believe that a forensic analysis of digital devices will reveal the true nature of his activities. An officer also claimed that Alam was found wandering 'suspiciously' near a station, which led to his detainment.
Family Denies Allegations
The family and relatives have denied all allegations. Alam's uncle stated, 'He is a quiet, studious boy, and such accusations are unimaginable for us. His mother added that her son has always been a law-abiding individual focused on his studies.' As NIA's probe continues, the full truth may take time to emerge, yet Alam remains under investigation post-release.
