In the midst of the hustling Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court. The court has provisionally freed Kejriwal until June 1st, after which he is required to surrender on June 2nd. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the interim bail and was prepared with a supplementary chargesheet to encircle Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
AAP's legal cell president, Sanjeev Nasiyar, expressed immense joy, highlighting the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal prior to his election campaign as part of BJP's conspiracy. With the Supreme Court's intervention upholding the law, Kejriwal's release on bail is now assured, allowing the public to once again listen to his voice and thoughts.
Sanjeev Nasiyar further indicated that, over the past week, the ED seemed to be under pressure, constantly changing its stance during three to four dates. Despite questioning, the agency failed to provide evidence, according to Nasiyar.
'Detention wasn't good for the country...'
Nasiyar stressed that this politically motivated case, and the resultant pressure to keep Kejriwal detained was not favorable for the country's interests. The laughter in the courtroom during Solicitor General's argument on behalf of ED during the previous dates spoke volumes of the nature of the case.
Asserting the failure of the current ruling party, Nasiyar stated, 'Narendra Modi has already lost the elections, and the upcoming wave after Kejriwal's release is expected to turn the tides significantly, akin to the 1977 elections where Indira Gandhi was swept out of power.'
What is the process of Kejriwal's release?
Following the grant of interim bail, Kejriwal's lawyers will visit the trial court along with the Supreme Court's order. After filing the bail bond, the trial court will issue a release order to the Tihar Jail administration. It's only after the trial court's release order is received that the jail administration will discharge Kejriwal.
Adish Aggarwal, the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, clarified the modern digital process of order transmission, which expedites the release procedure, making it very likely that Kejriwal will be released today.
On the subject of high-profile cases not involving murder charges, Aggarwal opined that the ED should not have arrested Kejriwal, as leaders of his stature don't flee. He also mentioned that considering the election period, it's crucial that influential political figures should not be suppressed, especially in the court's view.
