Following the death of a young Dalit man, who was incarcerated for theft in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, a wave of chaos broke out. As the deceased's body was brought home, the simmering anger of the people erupted. Soon after, rampant destruction and arson engulfed the area. The police attempted intervention but were met with stones. Many officers suffered injuries. Seeing the situation escalating, reinforcements from nearby stations were called in. Top police officials also arrived at the scene. As of now, calm has been restored, and police presence blankets the area.
Last Friday night (21 June), the chaos erupted and by the break of dawn on Saturday, district administration officials handed over a compensation check of 5 lakh to the deceased Akash's mother. The check was personally given by ADM Vishu Raja, with assurances of an impartial investigation. Before that, in an attempt to calm the family, police conducted Akash's funeral under their watchful presence early this morning. A heavy police force was on duty throughout this time.

City Police Superintendent Sarvesh Kumar Mishra commented that certain individuals attempted to disrupt the peace. Several police personnel were injured in stone-pelting incidents. The police exerted mild force in response. Rioters are being identified for legal action. A postmortem was conducted on Akash by a skilled panel, and orders have been issued for a magisterial investigation.
Jailed for Theft Case
It is important to note that the unrest began with the passing of 25-year-old Dalit youth Akash, who died in the hospital during treatment while incarcerated in Firozabad's district jail. He was hospitalized following a decline in his condition in jail. The police arrested Akash on theft allegations.

Outrage upon Hearing of the Death
The relatives of the deceased Akash from Nagla Pachiya, Thana South, and locals unleashed mayhem late Friday evening demanding a judicial investigation. During the violence at Himayupur crossroads, the CO, City Magistrate, and other police personnel managed to flee to save their lives. Many officers were injured. The SSP, alongside his team, drove the stone-throwing mob away with batons. Four individuals were detained on the scene. DM Ramesh Ranjan was also present.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Saurabh Dixit, stated that Akash was arrested on 19 June on charges of motorcycle theft. His condition deteriorated while in judicial custody on 20 June. The jail doctor treated him, followed by admission to the medical college. However, he succumbed during treatment. Following this, the relatives of the deceased and locals tried to create disorder, disrupting law and order. The police had to exercise mild force to control the crowd.
