Neeraj Chopra Makes History as the First Indian
Even with a silver medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra made history by becoming the first Indian to win both gold and silver in individual events at the Olympics. Before him, Abhinav Bindra won gold for India in shooting at the Beijing 2008 Olympics but could not win any further medals. Prior to Neeraj, only wrestler Sushil Kumar and badminton star PV Sindhu managed to win two medals each in individual events at the Olympics. Sushil Kumar won bronze in Beijing 2008 and silver in London 2012. PV Sindhu clinched silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020.
