The Bagmati Express en route from Mysore to Bihar's Darbhanga collided with a freight train near Chennai, causing a fire outbreak among its coaches. The incident unfolded near Kavaripettai railway station, resulting in injuries to 19 individuals, who have been promptly hospitalized.
As per reports, at approximately 8:50 PM on Friday, Train No. 12578, known as the Mysore-Darbhanga Express, collided with a stationary freight train in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur. This incident led to fires and smoke in two compartments and six carriages derailing.
Local authorities confirmed rescue teams are on-site and safely evacuating passengers. It seems the train met the stationary freight while traveling on the loop line.
Before the accident, passengers recounted a severe jolt, following which their train collided with the freight on the loop line, derailing six coaches. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but injuries among some passengers have been reported.
Immediate medical attention has been organized for the injured. A medical relief van, along with a rescue team, was dispatched from Chennai Central, and relief operations are in progress. The GM of Southern Railway, along with senior officials, has mobilized towards the crash scene.
