In a heart-wrenching incident in Meerut, UP, a short circuit while charging a mobile phone led to a massive tragedy. The resultant explosion set the house ablaze, critically burning the family of six. Sadly, four children succumbed to their injuries.
All the injured were rushed to the hospital where they remain in critical condition. The incident occurred in Janta Colony, Pallavpuram police station area, on Saturday night.
Four Children Perish Due to Mobile Explosion
The family, originally from Muzaffarnagar and led by the daily wager Johnny, was residing in a rented house in Janta Colony. Saturday, a holiday for Holi, had Johnny at home while his wife Babita was cooking. Their children Sarika (10), Niharika (8), Golu (6), and Kalu (5) were in the room.
It is reported that a mobile phone was charging on a board in the room. A sudden short circuit in the charger emitted sparks that ignited a foam mattress on the bed, quickly setting the house on fire. Babita, Sarika, and Johnny suffered severe burns attempting to save the children engulfed in flames.
Neighbors rushed to help upon hearing the commotion, evacuating the family and admitting them to a private hospital, from which they were later referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut.
Parents in Grave Condition
During treatment at the medical college, Niharika and Kalu passed away, with the morning adding to the grief as all four children succumbed to their injuries. Meanwhile, the condition of the parents remains precarious.
Relatives claim that the mobile phone, which was on charge, exploded abruptly injuring all six members of the family. The local community expressed shock over the sudden blast followed by a house fire. The children, trying to escape the flames and save each other, all suffered burns.
SSP Attributes Accident to Short Circuit
Regarding the case, Meerut's SSP Rohit Singh clarified that a short circuit in a home in the Pallavpuram area around 5 PM led to a fire, causing all family members to sustain injuries while trying to save one another. The hospitalized couple is in critical condition while the four children have deceased. The family hailed from Muzaffarnagar.
