A three-storey building in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has collapsed, raising fears that many people are buried under the rubble. The incident caused panic at the site, and police and other rescue teams have reached the spot immediately. They are currently engaged in removing the debris. As a precaution, nearby buildings have also been evacuated.
The District Magistrate of Meerut, Deepak Meena, has made a statement regarding the building collapse. He confirmed that eight people, including women and children, have been rescued from the debris, which had initially trapped 15 individuals. So far, six people have been reported dead, and rescue efforts for the remaining four are ongoing. Additionally, several animals have also died as a result of being trapped under the debris.
According to reports, continuous rainfall caused the dilapidated three-storey building in Zakir Colony, Lohia Nagar, to collapse. Rescue efforts are currently underway to retrieve those trapped under the rubble. Following notification of the collapse, police and local residents have been actively participating in the rescue operations.
Chief Minister Takes Note of Meerut Incident
Additionally, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the incident in Meerut. He instructed officials to reach the site immediately and expedite the rescue operations. The Chief Minister has also directed that the injured receive proper medical care. Under his directive, rescue teams are actively engaged in relief efforts at the site.
