Delhi Coaching Incident: MCD Carries Out Sealing Drive on Third Consecutive Day, Seals 9 More Basements

On Tuesday, the MCD sealed 7 basements of coaching centers in Old Rajendra Nagar in Karol Bagh Zone and 2 basements in Rajdhani Enclave and Preet Vihar areas of Shahdara South Zone. Several PGs and guest houses were inspected.

Following an incident at RAU's IAS Coaching Center in Old Rajendra Nagar, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been consistently taking action against illegal institutions. On Tuesday, a total of 9 coaching center basements were sealed. Previously, 19 centers had been sealed. The MCD has also posted notices on several illegal institutions and has been removing encroachments from the area.

Sealing of 9 Basements on Tuesday

On Tuesday, the MCD sealed 7 basements of coaching centers in Old Rajendra Nagar in Karol Bagh Zone and 2 basements of coaching centers in Rajdhani Enclave and Preet Vihar areas of Shahdara South Zone. Additionally, the MCD's public health department deployed a team from Malaria and PHI to inspect the Old Rajendra Nagar area. Several guest houses and PG accommodations were also inspected.

Institutions Targeted

Action was taken against IAS Gurukul, Tatva IAAS, Officers IAS Academy, Forum IAS, Psyche World IAS, Sanchetna IAS, Path Academy, and Drishti IAS. In Shahdara South Zone's Rajdhani Enclave and Preet Vihar areas, sealing actions were also carried out at Pratham Institute and Sanskriti Academy.

Actions on Sunday and Monday

The MCD also carried out sealing drives in several areas on Sunday and Monday, sealing a total of 19 basements. On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs formed a committee to investigate the coaching incident. The committee is responsible for identifying causes, determining responsibilities, suggesting measures, and recommending policy changes. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced a compensation of INR 10 lakh for the families of the deceased.

Mayor Shelly Oberoi's Statement

Mayor Shelly Oberoi stated that upon receiving information about the incident, she wrote a letter to the MCD Commissioner to take action against illegal coaching institutions. The mayor mentioned that in an emergency meeting with officials from the MCD, Jal Board, and PWD, instructions were issued to take action against such illegal institutions across Delhi. She assured that strict action would be taken against any officer found responsible in this matter.
