At a grand Eid prayer event held on Kolkata's historic Red Road, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a firm stand, amidst the community's spirit of celebration and unity, stating resolutely that she will not allow the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in West Bengal. This declaration resonates with her commitment to the state's diverse populace and her resolve to uphold their interests.
For the first time, Banerjee has explicitly articulated the Trinamool Congress's (TMC) position on the UCC, marking a significant moment just before the Lok Sabha elections. Her stance appears to be a strategic move to consolidate Muslim votes in Bengal, showcasing her intent to support the community's desires and expectations from the political echelons.
Asserting her fearless determination, Banerjee proclaimed, 'Like the Royal Bengal Tiger, I am ready to give my blood for the country... You call Muslim leaders during elections saying, what do you want? I say they want nothing but love... We will not accept the UCC... You can imprison me...but I believe that no matter how much the issues might wish harm, what is destined by the divine will happen.'
