As elections for the Maharashtra Assembly are due this year, every party is deeply entrenched in strategizing. In light of this bustling preparation, a significant development has emerged—the NDA is expected to soon announce the seat distribution. The Grand Alliance has already held several rounds of discussions regarding seat allocation, and an announcement is anticipated soon about how many seats each party in the coalition will contest.
Consensus Achieved on Seat Distribution within the Grand Alliance!
According to sources, an understanding has been reached among the NDA's Grand Alliance partners—BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction)—on the number of seats each will contest in the upcoming November Maharashtra Assembly elections. It's predicted that the BJP will contest the majority of seats, with Shiv Sena (Shinde) securing more seats than the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
Sources reveal that BJP might contest between 155 to 160 seats, Shiv Sena might aim for 90-95 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP will likely contest 35-40 seats. It is believed that there is agreement among all parties for 240 seats, and an official announcement could happen shortly. Maharashtra houses a total of 288 assembly seats.
Elections to Be Held Before November 26
The team from the Election Commission, which embarked on a two-day visit to Maharashtra to evaluate preparations for the state assembly elections, has wrapped up its visit. During this visit, the team held crucial meetings with numerous political factions and officials. The Election Commission stated that the elections must occur before November 26, as the tenure for the Maharashtra Assembly is set to conclude by then.
The Commission noted that for the 288 assembly seats, there are 95.9 million voters, among them, 49,039 are over the age of a hundred. Importantly, there has been a 22 percent increase in female voters in Maharashtra. Additionally, the eligible voters among the state's major tribal communities have been fully included in the voter list. Voting facilities for disabled and elderly citizens will be prioritized through the SAKSHAM app, ensuring they can cast their votes comfortably.
