The families of the victims of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad have made a shocking claim. Lawyers representing the families assert that the affected families have received the wrong bodies. Lawyers representing the families residing in London state that the remains were misidentified and sent to the UK.
Re-examination of Bodies in London
The revelation came after the coroner in London, responsible for examining the deceased in accidents, attempted to verify identities through DNA matches. The lawyers express that one family had to cancel the funeral arrangements because the coroner informed them the coffin contained a stranger's remains instead of their relative.
A heart-rending discovery found another family receiving remains mixed with those of another passenger, requiring separation before performing the last rites.
Bodies of Strangers Left Unburied
According to the lawyers, the receipt of incorrect remains has left families in turmoil. One family came to the startling realization of having the wrong remains, with no one left to bury. Efforts are being made to establish the sequence of events regarding how passenger bodies were retrieved and identified following the Ahmedabad accident.
Lawyers have confirmed a request for an investigation into this matter. The families are represented by Keystone Law, a London-based firm. Allegations have arisen claiming that post-crash DNA matching procedures were improperly conducted, resulting in the wrong remains reaching the UK.
DNA Matching Identified Victims
Following the catastrophic plane crash on June 12 in Ahmedabad, an arduous rescue operation commenced, led by the Ahmedabad police, fire department, and SDRF. Assistance ranged from sniffer dogs to advanced devices, with local residents participating to expedite aid to victims.
Air India's Boeing Dreamliner, bound from Ahmedabad to London, plummeted moments after take-off, with only one survivor among the 242 aboard. A total of 260 lives were lost in the crash, including 169 Indians, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian.
Before crashing, the aircraft collided with a medical hostel building, resulting in causalities both inside and around the vicinity. As the plane went ablaze upon impact, the bodies were charred beyond recognition, necessitating DNA sampling from family members to identify victims.
