The troubles for Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, are escalating. Following the CBI, now the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will also investigate him. Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has suspended Dr. Sandeep Ghosh's membership. The disciplinary committee of IMA took this action.
In a letter addressed to Sandeep Ghosh, the IMA stated, "The disciplinary committee duly constituted by National President Dr. R.V. Ashokan has taken suo-motu action considering the case of rape and murder of a postgraduate resident at RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata and the subsequent developments. The signatory, alongside the national president, visited the victim's parents at their home. They presented their grievances regarding your handling of the situation, pointing out the lack of empathy and sensitivity in your conduct."

Further, the letter mentioned, "The Bengal state branch of IMA and other doctors' organizations have also demanded action citing your misconduct, which tarnishes the entire profession. The disciplinary committee at the IMA headquarters has unanimously decided to suspend your membership from the Indian Medical Association immediately."
CBI Interrogated
It is noteworthy that the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, is under severe scrutiny. The CBI has interrogated him for over 100 hours in the past 10 days. Last Saturday, they registered a case of financial irregularities against him. Following the directives of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the investigation from the SIT formed by the West Bengal government. The CBI has also conducted two polygraph tests on Ghosh.
The CBI team visited former principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh's house to investigate the alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Additionally, the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI raided four other locations, including the home of Dr. Debashish Som, Demonstrator of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Now, the ED will also investigate this case.
Three Teams Executed Raids
Recently, a CBI team reached Dr. Sandeep Ghosh's residence, while another team went to Dr. Debashish Som's residence, and a third team visited the residence of former MSVP of RG Kar Hospital, Sanjay Vashishtha. The Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI inspected the administrative block of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Details of RG Kar Medical College Case
On August 9, a female resident doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. After committing this heinous crime, the intoxicated accused, Sanjay Roy, fell asleep in the same building and was later arrested by the police. The CBI is currently investigating this case.
Following the incident, the arrest and interrogation of Sanjay Roy revealed several critical details. Post the crime, Sanjay Roy's actions puzzled the police. According to the information revealed during the interrogation, after the crime, Sanjay Roy went straight to the Fourth Battalion and slept there. On August 10, he woke up, drank again, and fell asleep. The police scrutinized all the CCTV footage around the seminar hall of the hospital. These footages helped identify Sanjay Roy’s activities along with other individuals.
