The Kolkata police have arrested three individuals connected to the assault on two food vendors during the 'Five Lakh People Gita Recitation' event. According to police officials, these arrests were made on Wednesday night based on two separate complaints filed at the station.
According to reports from news agencies, this incident is linked to the 'Five Lakh People Gita Recitation' event held on December 7 at Brigade Parade Ground, which attracted thousands of attendees. The event was organized by the 'Sanatan Sanskriti Parliament'.
A Clash Over Chicken Patties
The complainants, one residing in Kolkata and the other from Arambag in Hooghly district, reported that they were selling chicken patties at the event venue. During this time, several youths confronted them, objecting to the sale of non-veg food at a religious gathering.
The food vendors alleged that the group of youths assaulted them, threw away their goods, and forced them to perform a humiliating exercise on command. It was reported that the assailants threatened them, stating that selling non-veg food at a religious event was inappropriate.
Perpetrators Detained
Immediately after the incident, a video went viral on social media, prompting swift police action. A senior official disclosed that upon receiving complaints, the footage was verified, leading to the identification and arrest of three individuals.
The police stated that further investigation is ongoing to determine if more individuals were involved in the incident. Authorities have made it clear that any form of violence or coercion during religious events will not be tolerated.
