The South Kolkata Law College campus in West Bengal has been rocked by shocking revelations in the case of a first-year student's gangrape. Former batchmate Titas Manna disclosed that the main accused, Manojit Mishra, had a history of criminal activities and had gone underground for some time after one incident. So far, four people, including former student Manojit, two college students, and a guard, have been arrested in the case.

Student Union had Imposed a Ban

Manojit's friend and former batchmate, Titas, revealed that he had known Manojit since 2012 and they were close friends until a few years ago, both actively participating in the TMCP (Trinamool Congress Chatra Parishad). He shared that Manojit went underground after an incident in 2013, but returned to college around 2016.

Titas claims that due to his actions, the student union imposed a ban on Manojit's participation in events. Despite this, Manojit allegedly continued his mischief on campus, engaging in numerous controversial incidents. Titas accused Manojit of being involved in harassment, assault, extortion, and several other incidents, yet victims were too intimidated by his local influence and ability to gather support to file formal complaints.

Prior FIRs Filed

His friend also revealed that TMCP never endorsed Manojit's actions, and even a former student union president had expressed concerns to higher authorities. Following his entry ban, Manojit continued his mischief outside the college, even going so far as to inflict injuries on himself and file false FIRs against two junior students.

Titas shared how Manojit maintained an atmosphere of fear at college, preventing anyone from speaking against him. Those troubled by Manojit's actions over the years are likely relieved. He recounted instances where Manojit would create disruptions under his house or enter girls' PGs under the influence of alcohol to cause havoc. In 2022, Manojit also misbehaved with a student outside the college, resulting in an FIR against him.

Reacting to the Kolkata gangrape, Dr. Archana Mazumdar, a member of the National Commission for Women, mentioned that there are attempts to cover up the case. Police officials are not fully cooperating with the commission, and the victim's family is under immense pressure. She stated that she was prevented by the police from making a video of the crime scene, even though the law permits the commission to conduct investigations and inspections. She plans to file a report to the commission's chairperson in Delhi.

The gangrape incident involving a college student in Kolkata on June 25 has left everyone in shock. Medical reports indicate that the victim had scratches on her neck, severe injuries on her chest and thighs, and signs of sexual assault. Allegedly, former student Manojit Mishra raped the victim while two other students, Promit Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed, were present.

The victim was tortured for nearly 3 hours, threatened to remain silent, with threats of harm to her boyfriend and false cases against her parents. Gathering her strength, she reported the matter to the police the very next day. In her complaint, she mentioned being summoned to the 'D' Block guard room of the college campus on the evening of June 25. Three people were already there, who held her captive, leading to the incident of gangrape.
