Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a bold step on Tuesday by challenging the nine summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged liquor scam. He moved to the Delhi High Court seeking justice. The division bench of the High Court is set to hear the leader's plea on Wednesday.

Nine summons issued so far

The Chief Minister had received his first summons on November 2, 2023, but he did not appear. Subsequently, the agency sent additional summonses on dates including November 21, January 3, January 18, February 2, February 19, February 26, March 4, and March 17. Kejriwal has not appeared for any of the summonses and accuses the central government of misusing the agency for political vendetta. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Chief Minister assert that the ED seeks to arrest him.

The High Court has previosuly recognized that all cases against him were bailable, and therefore granted him bail based on two bonds of 50,000 rupees each.

Allegations of using 45 crores in election funds

In the Delhi liquor policy scam case, six charge sheets have been filed to date. In its sixth charge sheet, the central agency named former Rajya Sabha MP from AAP, Sanjay Singh, and his associate Sarvesh Mishra. They allege that the AAP used 45 crores collected under this policy for campaigning in the Goa Legislative Assembly elections.
