Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea is expected to be decided by the Supreme Court today. If granted, Kejriwal could step out of jail after a long-awaited period. The Delhi excise policy case has garnered significant attention over the past two years, especially due to the high-profile arrests involved. Recently, the number of individuals granted bail in this case has surged. Only a few days ago, former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was also released.
What Has Happened Recently in the Excise Policy Case?
In recent weeks, there has been an increase in the number of bail grants, particularly after the Supreme Court granted bail to former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. It was anticipated that this decision might benefit other accused individuals legally. By April 2024, out of the 16 arrests made by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), only 5 had been granted bail. As of now, out of a total of 18 arrests, just one person has yet to be released.
The Situation in the ED's Case
Out of 18 individuals arrested by the ED, 14 have been granted bail by the courts, including 11 with regular bail and 3 with interim bail. Those on interim bail include Arvind Kejriwal, Hyderabad businessman Abhishek Boinpalli, and a liquor company director Amit Arora. Delhi businessman Amandeep Dhall remains in judicial custody, with his bail plea decision pending in the Delhi High Court.
Those Who Have Been Granted Bail
Apart from Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh of the AAP, and K Kavitha of the BRS, others granted bail include former AAP communications in-charge Vijay Nair, liquor businessman Sameer Mahendru, Pernod Ricard India's regional manager Binoy Babu, as well as Chariot Productions Media director Rajesh Joshi, Punjab liquor trader Gautam Malhotra, Hyderabad businessman Arun Pilliai, AAP volunteer Chanpreet Singh, and businessman Vinod Chauhan.
Additionally, three individuals have turned government witnesses and were released as a result:

The Situation in the CBI's Case:
Out of the 9 individuals arrested by the CBI, two remain in jail. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and businessman Amandeep Dhall are still in judicial custody. Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and BRS leader K Kavitha were recently granted bail by the Supreme Court. Additional individuals arrested by the CBI and granted bail include former AAP communications in-charge Vijay Nair, Hyderabad businessman Abhishek Boinpalli, Hyderabad CA Buchi Babu Gorantla, news channel head Arvind Kumar Singh, and AAP volunteer Chanpreet Singh.
