Security forces have achieved a significant victory in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating the top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba and head of the Kashmir terrorist organization TRF, Basit Ahmad Dar, along with three terrorists prior to elections in the valley. This operation followed an intelligence input regarding the presence of a Lashkar stronghold. A joint operation by police and security forces led to the termination of the three terrorists on Tuesday evening.
The loss of Dar is a notable achievement for the forces because he was responsible for the targeted killings Kashmiri Pandits and migrants within the valley. Under his leadership, TRF executed numerous attacks over the past five years, resulting in the deaths of dozens. He was on the most-wanted list of the security forces and had a bounty of ₹10 lakh announced on him. He was categorized under the elite A++ tier of terrorists.

Basit Dar was a resident of Kulgam
Authorities indicate that Basit was the mastermind behind several killings. Originally a resident of Redwani, Kulgam, he had disappeared from his home to later join the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba, known as The Resistance Front (TRF). Upon joining, he orchestrated multiple targeted killings and was appointed as the Kashmir chief for TRF. The security forces were on his trail for a long time. Last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh on Basit Ahmad Dar under case number 32/2021/NIA/DLI in response to his involvement.

Last year's TRF attack saw three officers martyred
It's worth noting that last September, a major terrorist attack took place in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the martyrdom of Army Colonel Manpreet Singh, Battalion Commanding Major Ashish Dhonaik, and DSP Humayun Bhat of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The assault occurred in the Halura Gandul area of Kokernag where terrorists were reported to be hiding. Following this input, the army and police conducted a search operation, and during the course of events, terrorists opened fire. The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for this attack, suggesting it was in retaliation for the death of Lashkar commander Riyaz Ahmad aka Qasim, who was killed in a mosque in Rawalkot on September 8.
