Former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, has indicated that if the power struggle within the Congress continues, then the opposition party BJP might consider bringing a no-confidence motion in the state assembly. He speculated that the tussle for the CM position between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar might allow an unexpected contender to emerge in the fray.

BJP MP from Haveri, Bommai, stated that the Congress high command had suggested two to three strategies to resolve the leadership crisis. He mentioned that if the internal tussle over the positions of chief minister and deputy chief minister in the Congress persists, political turmoil could engulf the state. Senior Congress leaders at the centre have proposed two to three solutions, but neither leader has agreed to any. Now, there are reports of a new formula being introduced, leaving both leaders out, and this might bring a surprising contender into the race.

He added that the contest for the top position in the Congress has intensified, while the high command appears helpless. The governance in the state has completely collapsed; farmers are in distress, and developmental projects are stagnant. Both leaders have made it a matter of pride. If this situation continues, the possibility of political instability in the state looms large. Anything could happen in the politics of the state.

When asked if the BJP might bring a no-confidence motion in the Belagavi session of the assembly, Bommai responded that there is time until December 8. If such a situation arises, the opportunity to bring a no-confidence motion might present itself.

Regarding the statement from the state's Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi that the purchase and sale of legislators is BJP's activity, not Congress's, Bommai retorted that Congress has been involved in horse-trading since 1969. At that time, Jarkiholi wasn't even in politics. A glance at Congress's history will make it clear. Don't they remember how DK Shivakumar kept all the Maharashtra legislators under control, thereby securing Vilasrao Deshmukh?
