In July 2020, the police team faced a fierce attack from Vikas Dubey's gang in Kanpur's Bikru village. The notorious gangster and his associates unleashed relentless gunfire, resulting in the tragic death of eight police officers, including the Circle Officer. Among the 44 charged in the Bikru incident, 30 faced charges under the gangster act. Today (September 5), 23 were found guilty. However, due to insufficient evidence, seven were acquitted.
The court sentenced the 23 convicted individuals to 10 years in prison, along with a fine of 50,000 INR each. Their trial took place in the gangster court of Kanpur Dehat, setting the stage for justice. Presently, these convicts are housed in Kanpur's Mati Jail.
Among those acquitted due to lack of evidence are Prashant alias Dabbu, Arvind alias Guddan, Sanju alias Sanjay Dubey, Sushil Tiwari, Rajendra Mishra, Bal Govind, and Ramesh Chandra. Meanwhile, the 23 remaining individuals will serve a 10-year sentence, alongside the imposed fine.
Note that the hearing was specifically for the gangster charges; the main Bikru case is still ongoing for these 30 individuals. Additional penalties will follow if found guilty in the main case. The former Chaubepur Station Head Krishna Mohan Rai filed an FIR against 30 out of 44 accused in the Bikru case on 23-10-2020 under the gangster act.
