Former Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Ganguly has found himself at the center of controversy with a statement suggesting he cannot choose between Gandhi and Godse. The Congress party has vehemently criticized Justice Ganguly, demanding the BJP to retract his parliamentary candidacy.
In a conversation with a Bengali channel, Former Judge Abhijit Ganguly of the Calcutta High Court said he could not make a choice between Mahatma Gandhi and Nathuram Godse. He stated that to understand Gandhi's assassination, one must comprehend Godse's rationale.
"Being from the legal profession, it's imperative for me to grasp the other side of the story. I have to read (Godse's) writings and understand why he felt compelled to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi before I can choose between Gandhi or Godse," he explained.
Outrage over Gangopadhyay's Statement
The Congress party has expressed outrage over former Judge Abhijit Ganguly's statement. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh described the situation as deplorable, stating it's unacceptable for a former High Court Judge to be indecisive between Gandhi and Godse. He insisted that the candidacy of such a person, who has failed to uphold Gandhi's legacy, should be immediately withdrawn. Nevertheless, Gangopadhyay had condemned Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.
It's worth noting that Justice Ganguly had recently joined the BJP. He was named as a candidate in the party's fifth list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections last Sunday.
