Jammu Kashmir Election 2024 Date

: The Election Commission has announced the dates for the assembly elections in Jammu, Kashmir, and Haryana. After ten years, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are taking place. The last elections here were held in 2014. Following a Supreme Court order to hold elections by September 30, 2024, this will be the first assembly election since Article 370 was repealed on August 5, 2019.

When are the elections in Jammu and Kashmir?

For the first time since becoming a Union Territory, Jammu and Kashmir will be holding assembly elections. The Election Commission has announced that voting will take place on September 18, September 25, and October 1. This sensitive region will go through three phases of polling. Results will be announced on October 4. In the first phase, 24 seats will be contested, followed by 26 in the second phase, and 40 in the third phase.

Last Time Voting was in Five Phases

In the last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, voting took place in five phases. The first phase occurred on November 25, 2014, covering 15 seats out of the 87. The subsequent phases happened on December 2 (18 seats), December 9 (16 seats), December 14 (18 seats), and the final phase on December 20 (20 seats). Results were declared on December 23, 2014.

Final Voter List on August 20

Before announcing the election dates, the Chief Election Commissioner had traced the electoral landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, noting the eagerness of the populace for elections. The voter list will include approximately 8.709 million voters in Jammu and Kashmir, with more than 2 million being youth. The final voter list will be published on August 20.

Over Two Crore Voters in Haryana

Haryana has over 2 crore voters, with 73 out of the 90 seats being general. The final voter list will be released on August 27, including 20,269 polling stations and more than 150 model polling booths.

Election Dates Announced for Haryana

The Election Commission has also announced the dates for the Haryana assembly elections. All 90 seats will be contested in a single phase on October 1, with results to be declared after counting on October 4.

What about Elections in Maharashtra?

The Election Commission responded to questions regarding Maharashtra elections by stating that presently, the focus is on Jammu and Kashmir. Due to the overlap with several festivals during the same period, elections in Maharashtra will be announced later.

By-Election Announcements

The Chief Election Commissioner indicated that 47 by-elections are pending, including one Lok Sabha and 46 assembly seats. Some states are facing active monsoons and other conditions, but these by-elections will be conducted within six months.
