On the 11th day of the Parliament's winter session, both houses witnessed significant uproar on Monday. The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 12 noon shortly after the proceedings began, while the Rajya Sabha faced intense chaos and altercations. In the midst of this, opposition members called for the smooth running of the house, whereas the treasury benches displayed aggression. Amidst this turmoil, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, referencing tradition and passed resolutions, insisted on the need for Question Hour and Zero Hour proceedings, capturing his desire for the sessions to continue uninterrupted. In a playful retort, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar humorously referred to his recent visit to Kurukshetra and likened Sanjay’s storytelling to that of the legendary Sanjay from Mahabharata.

Chairman Dhankhar spoke about attending the International Gita Festival in Kurukshetra, where the memory of Sanjay resurfaced. He mentioned how Sanjay vividly narrated the Mahabharata to the blind king Dhritarashtra, alluding to the modern-day Sanjay who witnessed the proceedings being thwarted repeatedly. Sanjay Singh refrained from entering the well, yet observed the persistent adjournments. Prior to this, AAP MP Sanjay Singh emphasized the importance of obligatory Question Hour and Zero Hour to allow all members, whether of the ruling or opposition parties, to voice their concerns on significant matters.

Sanjay Singh stressed that members held vital issues, and there was consensus to avoid disruptions. Chairman Dhankhar gently interrupted, expressing the emotional impact disruptions had on him, urging members not to forget their previous discussions. Dhankhar lamented disruptions from all quarters, emphasizing the importance of a smoothly running house. He noted they were embarking on a century as the Indian Constitution is celebrated, starting their current session in its fourth quarter, determined that no one should impede the workings of the house.

Rajya Sabha Proceedings Adjourned

Due to the uproar, the Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned until 12 noon. The chairman declared the adjournment amid the commotion. BJP MP Laxmikant Vajpayee raised concerns over national security, bringing George Soros into the discussion, which led to further disruption. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh advised the chairman not to engage personally. Pramod Tiwari argued that Vajpayee’s remarks should not enter the official record as they occurred without permission. Sudhanshu Trivedi quoted a proverb, implying that those who preach should also embody their teachings.
