In Lebanon, the Israeli military's offensive continues with relentless air and ground raids by their Defense Forces. This onslaught, carried out via missiles, rockets, and drones, has left countless buildings in ruins. As a result, a massive exodus from the city of Beirut is underway, leaving homes abandoned and vulnerable to burglary. Taking advantage of this situation, local thieves have been targeting these empty houses. To curb crime, the police have devised a unique punishment method.
The Lebanese police are now apprehending thieves, binding their hands and feet to power poles in public, physically chastising them before hanging signs around their necks stating, 'I'm a Thief.' This novel measure aims to deter thefts amid the chaos. Despite these efforts, numerous gangs continue preying on the populace, especially targeting vacant homes. The ongoing conflict has only bolstered their illicit activities.
On another front, Israeli forces have intensified attacks on Hezbollah, most recently launching three powerful explosions in Beirut overnight. Subsequent fire and explosions in southern suburbs revealed the precision targeting of Hezbollah strongholds. The Israeli authorities claim to have destroyed a major underground command center belonging to Hezbollah.
This mission has reportedly taken out 50 fighters, including six senior commanders. The Israeli Defense Forces also demolished an explosives-filled tunnel. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appealed to the Lebanese people via a video message, urging them to expel Hezbollah for the sake of their children's futures and to calm the strife.
As these operations continue, Hezbollah's strength appears to be waning. Its acting leader, Naim Qassem, has expressed a desire for a ceasefire, suggesting further discussions post-ceasefire. However, Qassem remains adamant that no talks will occur until a ceasefire is established. The ongoing Israeli offenses in Lebanon and Gaza have sparked anger, leading to retaliatory attacks on Israeli civilians.
On Wednesday, a significant stabbing incident occurred in Hadera, Israel, wounding six people, two severely. The quick response from law enforcement neutralized the attacker promptly. In the past two weeks, the Israeli assault on Lebanon has resulted in 2,100 casualties and the displacement of approximately 1.2 million people. Those displaced have been seeking refuge in safer parts of Lebanon, far from Beirut.
