Amid the ongoing instability in neighboring Pakistan, reports suggest that President Asif Ali Zardari might be removed from office, causing a stir in political circles. However, Pakistan's Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has dismissed these reports as rumors.
On social media, discussions are rampant about whether Pakistan's Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is plotting to oust Zardari and become President himself.
In light of these speculations, Interior Minister Naqvi released a statement calling it a malicious campaign. He asserted that they are fully aware of who is orchestrating this agenda against President Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the Army Chief.
Naqvi emphasized that there has been no discussion or possibility of Zardari resigning from the presidency. He highlighted the excellent and respectful relations between President Zardari and the military.
He added, "I know who is spreading these fake rumors, why they are doing it, and who stands to benefit. Asif Munir is focused on strengthening and stabilizing Pakistan. Those crafting such false narratives might be operating with hostile forces, but we are committed to making Pakistan stronger."
It is notable that Asim Munir was appointed as Army Chief for three years in 2022 and his tenure was extended by two more years last year.
Zardari was elected President last year for a term of five years. He and his son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, maintain positive relations with Pakistan's government. Following the recent India-Pakistan conflict, Bilawal was part of the delegation representing Pakistan's interests globally.
