Iran has commenced a thorough investigation into the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. According to media reports, more than two dozen individuals including senior intelligence officers, military officials, and employees have been arrested at a guest house operated by the IRGC Quds Force in Tehran, where the Hamas leader was murdered.
Following the early morning explosion on Wednesday that resulted in Ismail Haniyeh's death, large-scale arrests have been made. Haniyeh was attending the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new President when he was killed on Wednesday. Initial reports claimed his death was due to an Israeli airstrike, but later sources confirmed it was due to explosives planted in the guest house. Haniyeh had come to Tehran to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new President. He was staying at a guest house in northern Tehran's capital during his visit.

Iran Holds Israel Responsible
Ali Vaez, Iran Director for the International Crisis Group, commented, 'The perception that Iran cannot defend its homeland or protect its key allies could prove fatal…' Both Middle Eastern and Iranian officials stated that the fatal explosion was caused by a bomb placed in Haniyeh’s room two months prior. Iranian officials and Hamas said on Wednesday that Israel was responsible for the assassination.
Investigation Launched by Iran
Israel, which has sworn to eliminate Hamas, has not confirmed any involvement in Haniyeh's death. According to two Iranian officials, the special intelligence unit of the Revolutionary Guards Corps has taken over the investigation, searching for suspects. The intelligence unit hopes to identify those involved in planning, aiding, and executing the murder.
Haniyeh's Assassination Happened on Wednesday
Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh participated in the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday (July 30). During this time, Haniyeh also met Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The following day (Wednesday), early in the morning, Israel destroyed the house where Ismail Haniyeh was staying. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the attack specifically targeted Haniyeh's residence in Tehran. The explosion killed not only Hamas Chief but also his bodyguard.
