Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India's first elevated Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram, Haryana, on March 11th, alongside Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and Chief Minister Manohar Lal, as well as Union Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari and State Minister Rao Inderjit Singh. PM Modi shared images of the expressway on his official Twitter, highlighting this landmark project.
Expressway built at a cost of 9,000 crores
India's gift - the Dwarka Expressway - is nearing completion with a budget of about 9,000 crores. Out of the total 29.5 kilometers, 19 kilometers run through Gurugram, while the remaining section is undergoing improvements and beautification by NHAI officials to finalize its construction. Around nine kilometers of work within Delhi is expected to be completed by June.
Expressway passing through these parts of Haryana
This unprecedented 8-lane elevated access-controlled expressway, costing nearly 9,000 crores to construct, includes a 34-meter-wide elevated road stretching over 9 kilometers on a single pillar - the first of its kind in India. It intersects with Pataudi Road (SH-26) near Harsaru and with Farukh Nagar (SH-15A) near Basai in Haryana. Additionally, it crosses the Delhi-Rewari railway line near Sector-88 (B) and Bharthal in Gurugram. The expressway will connect the proposed Global City in Gurugram District, along with Sectors 88, 83, 84, 99, 113, to Dwarka Sector-21.
16 Lane Expressway, 34 Lane Toll Plaza
The expressway features 34 toll gates across its 16 lanes. It has been designed to ensure smooth traffic flow without disruption. Service roads of four lanes each also run alongside the expressway.
Improved connectivity between Delhi and the airport
The Haryana stretch of the Dwarka Expressway is 18.9 kilometers long, and the Delhi stretch is 10.1 kilometers. Noteworthy are tunnels, underpasses, flyovers, and even a flyover atop another flyover. The expressway will enhance connectivity between Gurugram and Delhi's IGI Airport, benefiting Gurugram and the NCR region. Residents of new sectors will also gain from this infrastructure.
Expressway divided into four sections
The expressway is divided into four parts. The first connects near Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Dwarka, the second from Dwarka Urban Extension Road (UER) to Bajghera, the third from Bajghera to the Basai Rail Over Bridge (Delhi-Haryana border), and the fourth from Basai ROB to Kherki Daula. It includes the cloverleaf interchange in Gurugram's highway section, which connects the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway (NH-48) and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) near Kherki Daula.
