In an expression of cross-cultural religious festivities, 62 Indian Hindu pilgrims have arrived in Pakistan through the Wagah Border on Wednesday to participate in the Maha Shivaratri celebrations. According to spokesperson Amir Hashmi of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), the main celebration will be hosted on March 9 at the historic Katas Raj Temple, situated about 300 kilometers from Lahore in Chakwal district. These events will see the attendance of various political, social, and religious leaders.
Amir Hashmi further revealed that after an overnight stay at Lahore's Gurdwara Dera Sahib, pilgrims will head to the Katas Raj Temple on Thursday for the main event. The ETPB is providing security, accommodation, and transportation for the attendees.
Historical Sites Tour
Post celebrations, on March 10th, pilgrims will return to Lahore and visit sacred sites, including the Krishna Temple, Lahore Fort, and other historical landmarks on March 11. All pilgrims will then depart for India on March 12th.
As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Shiva wed Goddess Parvati on this auspicious night. To honor their divine union, the day is celebrated as 'The Night of Lord Shiva'.
