Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav addressed a significant press conference ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 clash. On Saturday, the eve of the match against South Africa in Ahmedabad, Suryakumar clearly stated that the team management isn’t concerned about Abhishek Sharma’s current form.

India is set to face South Africa on February 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In this important Super-8 match, the captain spoke openly about the team's strategy, the pitch conditions, the batting order, and potential adjustments.

What Did the Captain Say About Abhishek Sharma's Form?

Captain Surya dismissed the rising questions regarding Abhishek Sharma’s three consecutive ducks. He remarked, "We are not concerned. I am more worried about those worried about Abhishek’s form. Why are they so concerned?"

He further mentioned that it's a team game and every player experiences such phases in their career. Last year, Abhishek was pivotal for us; if he's not producing runs this time, we will compensate for him.

It's noteworthy that Abhishek Sharma hasn't opened his account in the three games he has played. He missed one match due to a stomach illness. Nevertheless, his place in the Super-8 seems secure.

Confidence in Pitch and Conditions

Regarding the pitch, Suryakumar stated the team is prepared for any circumstances. He admitted the wickets have not been overly challenging, yet the team has adapted to the conditions.

He emphasized the need to respect the situation while batting. "We possess adequate skills. Sometimes, playing according to the situation is necessary. We have players capable of changing the game's course."

Strategy Against Off Spin

When asked about the struggles against off-spin, the captain noted that the team has played ample cricket to understand tackling such bowling. They have aimed to perform better by adjusting their strategy.

Will Sanju Samson Get a Chance?

Upon being questioned about any changes in the playing eleven and the potential inclusion of Sanju Samson, Suryakumar chuckled and asked, "Should I remove Abhishek now? Or Tilak?"

He made it clear that the team combination is currently balanced and won’t change without substantial reasons.

The Question of Sending Tilak Varma to Open

On the possibility of sending Tilak to open, the captain said it completely depends on the match situation. If the openers don't provide a good start, we might need to change our pace. "We must preserve wickets; otherwise, pressure increases on the lower order. I have confidence in our bowlers to defend a score of 180-190."

A Clear Message Before the Crucial Clash

The first match in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super-8 stage for India is against South Africa. This game will play a vital role in determining our path forward. Captain Suryakumar Yadav’s statement makes it clear that the team isn't under pressure, possessing complete trust in their players.
