The Indian Army has recently acquired 96 ATOR N1200 Specialist Mobility Vehicles. These are particularly useful in the marshy terrain of Kutch. Manufactured by JSW Gecko, this acquisition involved a deal worth 2.5 billion rupees. These vehicles were also showcased during the Republic Day parade in 2024.
The ATOR N1200 is an advanced amphibious vehicle, also known as an Extreme Mobility Vehicle. It can navigate various challenging terrains. Designed keeping indigenous needs in mind, it can operate in any terrain. Currently, these vehicles have been deployed near the Kutch border.

The army uses it in Kutch. This vehicle can traverse mud and marshy areas since its wheels don't get stuck. Additionally, it can speed through snow, water, and sand with ease. Apart from Kutch, the vehicle will also be deployed in the northeastern and Himalayan regions. It could become extremely important for the Indian Army.

Plans Underway for Public Use
This Republic Day parade showcased this vehicle to the general public for the first time. Plans are underway to use the ATOR N1200 for public transport so that the public can also benefit from it, particularly during relief and rescue operations in disasters.

Room for 9 and All-Weather Capability
It features a 1.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine generating 136 horsepower. The hydro-pneumatic suspension arm allows it to navigate any path. It's a four-wheel drive with 600 mm ground clearance. It operates in extreme weather conditions from -40°C to 45°C. It can accommodate 9 people at once or carry up to 1200 Kg.
