Jason Miller, a political lobbyist appointed by India to represent its interests, met with US President Donald Trump amidst trade and tariff tensions from Washington. Miller is the head of SHW Partners LLC, reportedly hired by the Indian Embassy in April for 1.8 million USD annually.

Shared a Picture with Trump

Although Miller hasn't disclosed the purpose of his meeting with Trump and other officials, he posted several images on social media, including one with the US President, saying, 'Had a fantastic week in Washington with so many friends in town, and the best part was staying and watching our President in action! Keep it up, Donald Trump.'

The doubling of tariffs on Indian goods to 50% by Trump drastically affected US-India relations. The US also imposed a 25% additional duty on India for purchasing Russian oil, included in the 50% tariff. India termed the US actions as unjustified and imprudent.

Trump Signals Reconciliation with India

However, signs of restoring ties appeared when Trump emphasized the unique nature of US-India relations and assured of his enduring friendship with PM Modi in a Friday press conference, expressing his commitment to their personal connection. He asserted, 'I'll always be a friend to Modi. He's a great leader, but I'm not fond of their current actions.'

Trump acknowledged, 'There’s no concern in this special US-India relation.' PM Modi reciprocated to Trump's remarks, appreciating their positive reflection and support concerning India-US strategic ties, describing the partnership as deeply valued and visionary on X.

Who is Jason Miller?

Jason Miller, regarded as Trump's 'brain', served as the strategist in Trump's 2016 and 2020 election campaigns. In the US, he aids India in diplomacy, public relations, and policy formulation. India chose Miller for his profound understanding of Trump's vision and influential presence in Washington's power corridors.

Through Miller's appointment, India aims to firmly position its views on the Kashmir issue in the US and create a conducive environment for trade deals. Miller's recent meeting with Trump hints at relaying India's tariff grievances to the US President. Recent Trump statements spark speculation of potential reconciliation with India.
