Donald Trump has trapped himself with his statements. He launched a sharp attack on social media targeting India and Russia, labeling their economies as 'Dead.' Trump said he doesn't care what India does with Russia, but these countries can collectively drag their supposedly dead economies downwards.

Trump's post comes after announcing a 25% tariff on India. He remarked, 'I don't care what India does with Russia, but together they can further sink their 'dead economy.'

Scottish historian William Dalrymple has refuted this claim by American President Donald Trump. He stated that India isn't a 'Dead Economy' but is in fact growing at twice the speed of the US economy, sharing statistics that show India has surpassed the United States.

India's Economy to Triple U.S. Growth Rate

Dalrymple said on Thursday that India's economy is far from 'dead.' Last year, it grew at double the pace of America's economy, and this year it's poised to triple that growth rate. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) supports Dalrymple's assertions with fresh world economic statistics.

Watch India's Rapid Economic Growth in Numbers

According to the IMF, India’s economy is projected to grow at 6.4% in both 2025 and 2026, compared to a US economic growth estimate of 1.9% and 2%. In 2025, India's economic growth is expected to be 6.7% annually.

Chief of the IMF’s Research Department, Deniz Igan, noted during a recent press conference that our growth rate remains quite stable. Updated Indian projections show an additional 0.2 percentage points growth in 2025 and 0.1 percentage points growth in 2026 compared to April updates.

Global Economy Growth Standings

In contrast, the global economy is expected to grow at a rate of 3% in 2025, with developed economies like the U.S. expected to have growth rates below 2%. China's growth rate is projected at 4.8%.

Trump Announces 25% Tariff on India

On Wednesday, Trump announced a 25% tariff on all imports from India and expressed displeasure over India's purchases of Russian crude oil and military equipment, suggesting penalties. Trump claimed, 'India has the most difficult and unkind trade barriers, more than any other country.' He labeled India's tariffs the highest in the world.

A Strong Stand Against Dollar Attacks

Trump asserted that America's trade with India has been minimal. India sells significantly to us, but we don’t buy from them due to high tariffs. He criticized India's role in BRICS, describing it as an inherently anti-American group, suggesting India’s membership is an attack on the dollar. 'We will not allow anyone to attack the dollar,' Trump insisted.
