In a shocking incident, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was assaulted during a public hearing, leaving her with a head injury. The Delhi Police have confirmed the attack and informed the Home Ministry. The assailant has been identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakaria, a 41-year-old resident of Rajkot, Gujarat, who is known to be an animal lover. He has been apprehended by the police, and an investigation is underway. Meanwhile, an exclusive image of the assailant has been obtained by Aaj Tak.

According to sources, the man's family member is currently incarcerated, prompting him to present a plea for release. The case is currently under judicial consideration. In an effort to gather more information about the individual, the Delhi Police have reached out to their counterparts in Gujarat, and his identity card has been issued accordingly.

Interrogation reveals that the accused's mother claims he came to Delhi after a Supreme Court decision about stray dogs. She states that her son is mentally unwell but passionate about animals. He has been to Delhi before, and he comes from a family of rickshaw pullers. Rajkot Police have also taken his mother in for questioning. She was unaware of her son's intentions to visit the Delhi CM.

It is reported that after submitting documents, the man unexpectedly attacked the Chief Minister. The police swiftly arrested him, and interrogation is in progress. BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar clarified that there's no direct political affiliation confirmed, but the suspect's prior statements suggest a possible connection with an unsatisfied political party in Delhi.

Virendra Sachdeva Denies Claims of Slapping

Delhi BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva stated that the assailant tried pulling the Chief Minister's hand, leading to a scuffle that resulted in her head hitting a table corner. Medical assessments indicate Gupta's condition is stable though she is still in shock. Sachdeva refuted speculation of stone-throwing or slapping, praising Gupta as a "strong woman" who will continue her daily responsibilities.

Scent of Political Conspiracy – Manjinder Singh Sirsa

Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa described the incident as a "political conspiracy." He remarked, "She diligently serves Delhi round the clock, and the opposition struggles to endure her direct involvement with the public." He expressed confidence that the political intrigue will unravel under police scrutiny.

Eyewitnesses Claim Slap Occurred

An eyewitness, Anjali, conveyed her disagreement, asserting, "Everyone has the right to public hearings. I was there when the accused, after conversing, suddenly slapped her. The police immediately took him away." According to Delhi Police, the DCP is actively investigating the entire situation.

Condemnation from Congress-AAP Leaders

The political backlash was swift. Delhi Congress Chief Devendra Yadav remarked, "This is extremely unfortunate. If the Delhi CM isn't safe, how will we ensure the safety of ordinary citizens or women?" Former CM and AAP MLA Atishi also condemned the incident, emphasizing the place for dissent in democracy, but firmly against any form of violence. She hopes for stern action against the perpetrators to ensure the Chief Minister’s safety.
