Tracing back, the Indian team last held a World Cup of any form in their hands back in 2011. Now, after 13 long years, the stage is set for them to reclaim the champion's title.

India has entered 11 ICC tournaments since 2013, managing to step into the knockout stages in nine out of the previous 10. Although they were ousted in the group stage in the T20 World Cup 2021, the team has displayed toughness, winning four of the 13 knockout games they played – three being semifinals and one a quarterfinal. However, the chase for the trophy has seen its share of heartbreak, with four semifinal losses and five final defeats.
