India's Squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Indian team on Tuesday, April 30th for this year's tournament, set to take place from June 1st to June 29th, hosted by the West Indies and the United States.
Some surprising inclusions and omissions have been made for the World Cup squad. KL Rahul, wicketkeeper-batsman leading IPL team Lucknow Super Giants, and Ishan Kishan, wicketkeeper-opener for Mumbai Indians, did not secure a spot.
Gill and Gaikwad Also Left Out
Along with them, players like Mayank Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad found themselves excluded from the World Cup team. However, they should not lose hope as a fantastic opportunity still awaits them to make their way into the final squad.
Indeed, the International Cricket Council (ICC) gave all countries until May 1st to declare their teams. But in a twist, the ICC has allowed all teams to make changes until May 25th.
ICC Permits Changes Until May 25th
This means any country wishing to alter their team composition still has ample time. The IPL final is scheduled for May 26th, which means the complete season (excluding the final) would have concluded.
Therefore, players left out of the World Cup team have a golden chance to impress the selectors with a strong performance in the IPL. If someone delivers an extraordinary performance, the BCCI selectors could consider them for inclusion in the World Cup squad.
Team Changes Possible After May 25th
Note that any changes after May 25th will require the approval of the ICC's Event Technical Committee. A compelling reason must be provided for such alterations, usually in cases of injury or unforeseen circumstances.
