The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has apprehended Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjeev Hans and former legislator Gulab Yadav following investigations into money laundering allegations. Hans was detained at his official residence in Patna, while Yadav was captured at a resort in Delhi. Hans belongs to the 1997 batch of IAS officers.
As reported by the ED, Hans has invested in unclaimed property worth crores in Punjab’s bustling locales of Mohali and Kasauli. Both he and Gulab Yadav, a known associate in Delhi, face serious charges.
ED has coordinated with the Bihar Special Vigilance Unit (SVU), with insights revealing this case was filed on September 14. SVU’s officers are meticulously reviewing the shared intelligence from central investigation agencies. According to news agency coverage, a senior officer noted, 'The FIR includes charges against Hans, Yadav, and approximately 14 others, including family members. The SVU seeks custody for thorough interrogation.' Notably, Hans was transferred to the General Administration Department in August following ED raids.
The agency previously conducted raids across numerous sites in Bihar, Delhi, and Pune as part of its investigation into financial discrepancies involving IAS officer Hans and ex-RJD legislator Yadav.
Sanjeev Hans's name has been involved in controversies, with recent accusations of rape filed against him. Similarly, another allegation against Yadav was brought upon by a woman for the same offense.
Formerly hailing from RJD, Gulab Yadav was a legislator representing Madhubani's Jhanjharpur constituency. Denied a ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he shifted allegiance, attempting the electoral battle via a BSP ticket. Although unsuccessful in parliamentary politics, Yadav emerged as a formidable political figure. His wife, Ambika Gulab Yadav, gained an MLC position from the local body sector upon defeating a BJP contender. Furthermore, his daughter Bindu Gulab Yadav serves as the chairperson of the district council.
