A shocking incident unfolded in Hyderabad, where a woman bravely leaped from a moving train to preserve her dignity. Though she escaped with minor injuries, the woman alleges that a man attempted to rape her onboard the train.
According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the 23-year-old was injured when she jumped from a moving train to escape an assault attempt by a man in her coach. She was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
The victim, undergoing treatment at a Hyderabad hospital, told police that the incident occurred on the evening of March 22, when she was traveling alone in the women's coach of a Multi-Modal Transport Service (MMTS) train from Secunderabad to Medchal.
The woman reported that two other female passengers in her coach alighted at Alwal Railway Station, after which a roughly 25-year-old unknown man approached her and demanded sexual favors. Upon her refusal, he attempted to assault her, prompting her to jump from the moving train.
A GRP officer stated that she sustained bleeding injuries on her head, chin, right arm, and waist. Later, some passersby helped her to a government hospital. The woman expressed that she would recognize the man if she saw him again.
A case has been registered based on the woman's complaint under sections 75 (assault or criminal force to outrage the modesty of a woman) and 131 (use of criminal force) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).
The woman, an employee in the private sector, had visited Secunderabad from Medchal to have her mobile phone's display repaired when the incident occurred. Police are investigating the case.
