From Northern India to the East and West, the entire nation is experiencing an oppressive heatwave. Gujarat is no exception, with severe temperatures being registered across the region. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures in Kandla, Gujarat, are surging past 46 degrees Celsius. Ahmedabad is sweltering at 45.9, Surendranagar at 45.8, Gandhinagar at 45.7, and Amreli reaching 44.9 degrees Celsius. The forecast suggests there's no reprieve from the heat just yet.
Red Alert Issued for Heatwave
The IMD has issued a heatwave alert for the next five days across Kutch and Saurashtra in Gujarat, while a red alert has been declared in Ahmedabad for two days. The forecast predicts severe heatwave conditions continuing across North Gujarat and Saurashtra, urging caution given the rising temperatures.
How Hot Is It?
Along with the heatwave alert, the IMD has issued a red alert for Ahmedabad and orange alerts for Patan, Mehsana, and Sabarkantha. Currently, Surendranagar records the highest temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius, with Ahmedabad at 45.2 degrees, and both Gandhinagar and Amreli at 45 degrees.
When Will Relief from the Heat Come?
According to the IMD, people may have to wait another week for relief from the escalating heat, with a possibility of the mercury dipping by up to 2 degrees thereafter.
Turning to Snow Parks for Relief from Heat
As a respite from the heat, families are visiting snow parks. Typically, for relief from harsh temperatures, families holiday in cooler regions like Kashmir, Leh-Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. However, facing the scorching heat of Ahmedabad, locals are seeking the chilly confines of snow parks. At the snow park on Ahmedabad's SG Highway, over a thousand visitors are seeking relief from the heat, trading 45-degree weather outside for the snowy bliss of minus 7 degrees inside the park.
