Hail Ganapati, the repository of virtues, merciful poet. Remover of obstacles and bringer of auspicious events, Hail son of Girija.
Chaupai
Hail, hail, hail O Lord Ganapati. You bring auspiciousness and success in every task. 1
Hail the wondrous and delightful Ganesha. Bestower of joy and wisdom. 2
With curved trunk and adorable tusk, You have an enchanting tilak on your forehead. 3
Adorned with gems and pearls, Wearing a golden crown and broad eyes. 4
Carrying a book, axe, and trident, You delight in modak and fragrant flowers. 5
Beautifully dressed in yellow silk, Sandals that please the minds of sages. 6
Hail the son of Shiva, brother of Shadanana. Your mother is known all over the world. 7
Riddhi and Siddhi wave the chauri, Mouse as your vehicle enhances your grace. 8
Let me narrate your auspicious birth story, It’s immensely pure and auspicious. 9
Once Girija, daughter of the mountain, Performed great penance for a son. 10
When the unmatched yagna was completed, You arrived in divine Brahmin form. 11
Knowing you as a guest, Girija jubilantly served you in many ways. 12
You were greatly pleased and granted a boon, The penance of a mother for her son was fulfilled. 13
Then you'll receive a son of great intellect, without the need for her to bear a child. 14
Gananayaka, the treasure of virtue and knowledge, The first to be worshipped, divine in form. 15
Thus said, and disappeared, You appeared there as a child in the cradle. 16
Appearing as a baby, you started crying, Seeing your face, Gauri’s heart was filled with joy. 17
All felt joy and sang auspicious songs, From the sky, gods showered flowers. 18
Shiva and Uma lavishly gave away gifts, Sages and gods came to see the child. 19
Observing the great joy and decoration, Even King Shani came to see. 20
Considering his flawed nature, Shani did not wish to see the child. 21
Girija got somewhat offended, Said to Shani, 'My festival does not please you!'. 22
Shani, reluctantly, says, 'What harm will come, I haven't seen the child'. 23
Still, Uma felt fearful, Inviting Shani to see the child. 24
As soon as Shani cast his glance, The child's head flew off to the sky. 25
Girija fell and was distressed, None could describe the sorrowful sight. 26
Chaos erupted in Kailash, Realizing the loss caused by Shani. 27
Quickly, Garuda departed to Vishnu, Cut off the head of an elephant and brought it back. 28
Placing it on the child's body, With life-infusing mantras, Shankar revived the child. 29
Thus, the name Ganesh was given by Shiva, Becoming the first worshipped deity, source of wisdom. 30
When Shiva tested his intelligence, Ganesh performed pradakshina around the earth. 31
Shadanana left, Brahma suggested, You stayed and performed wisdom. 32
Shiva gratified, praised Ganesh, From the sky, gods showered flowers. 33
You touched the feet of your parents, Circumambulated them seven times. 34
Your wisdom and glory are unmatched, Even Sheshnaga with thousand mouths couldn't narrate them. 35
Though I'm unintelligent, and distressed, Seeking your grace, how would I ask? 36
Devotees of Lord Ram always worship-Prayer to Ganesha, Prayag, Kakra, and Durvasa. 37
Now, O Lord, show your mercy on the meek, Grant devotion and strength. 38
