Farewell to the Enchanting Author of 'Naukar Ki Kameez': Vinod Kumar Shukla Passes Away at 89

Esteemed Hindi poet and storyteller Vinod Kumar Shukla has passed away at AIIMS, Raipur. Recently, he received the prestigious Jnanpith Award. His novel ‘Naukar Ki Kameez’ (1979) is regarded as a historic creation in the world of literary fiction.

The literary world mourns as celebrated Hindi poet and storyteller Vinod Kumar Shukla has left us. At the age of 89, Shukla took his final breath at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raipur. He had been unwell for some time, requiring hospitalization. Last month, on November 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it a point to inquire about his health personally.

In the previous month, Vinod Kumar Shukla was bestowed with the highest honor in Hindi literature, the Jnanpith Award. Born on January 1, 1937, in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, Shukla was renowned for his quiet demeanor, yet his works resonated deeply with his readers.

Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister, Vishnudev Sai, expressed deep sorrow over Shukla's demise, stating, 'The loss of great literary figure Vinod Kumar Shukla ji is immense. With seminal works like Naukar Ki Kameez and Diwar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi, Vinod Ji elevated ordinary life with dignity, leaving a lasting legacy that Chhattisgarh will always cherish. His writings, filled with empathy, will continue to inspire generations. Condolences to his family and admirers.'

Having studied agricultural science, Shukla developed an intimate connection with the earth and greenery, which became the foundation of his creative voice. His literary pursuits consistently aimed at enriching humanity and society.
