Currently, there is intense fear in Lebanon. Huge destruction has taken place here over the past two days. The chaos began with an exploding pager and continued with explosions in walkie-talkies, solar panels, fingerprint devices, and radios. There is widespread panic among people regarding electronic devices, leading to hesitation in using them.
To outsmart the Israeli army and Mossad, Hezbollah in Lebanon had avoided using mobile phones and internet calling. Hezbollah Chief Nasrallah had strictly instructed his fighters and supporters not to use mobiles for communication. Thus, Hezbollah supporters relied on pagers and walkie-talkies for conversations. However, the situation seems to be changing after these attacks.
According to reports, due to the explosions over the past two days in Lebanon, Hezbollah supporters are wary of using pagers and walkie-talkies. It is said that they have stopped using these devices. Electronic devices like pagers and walkie-talkies are being removed from homes, and Hezbollah supporters have even kept them away from their families. Several reports claim that solar panels have been removed from homes and buildings. The use of handheld radios and other electronic devices has also ceased.
The situation in Lebanon has escalated to the point where Hezbollah fighters are examining every electronic device, whether used or unused. The potential risks associated with these devices are being meticulously assessed.
In the meantime, former CIA officer Robert Baer told CNN that the ongoing explosions in Lebanon indicate that Israel might be capable of tampering with Hezbollah's supply chain, a task that is not easy for anyone.
What is the reason behind the Israel-Hezbollah enmity?
Hezbollah has been in a war-like situation with Israel for the past 11 months. Israel is combating Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, in the Gaza Strip. Since the attack on October 7 last year, Hezbollah has been incessantly launching missiles and drones at Israel, prompting Israel to target Lebanon.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that Israel stands at the brink of a new phase of this war, and we need to acknowledge it.
When and where did the blasts occur?
Pager explosions continued for almost an hour on Tuesday in the border areas of Lebanon and Syria. Serial blasts in pagers began at 3:30 PM local time on Tuesday in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, and many regions of southern Lebanon, especially the eastern Bekaa Valley, considered Hezbollah strongholds.
Similarly, on Wednesday, aside from pagers, explosions occurred in walkie-talkies, solar panels, and handheld radios in Lebanon. Explosions also occurred in solar systems in homes across various Lebanese cities, including Beirut. Reports indicate that these sudden explosions on Wednesday afternoon caused panic, leading people to gather on the streets. Five members of a family were seriously injured in an explosion in a solar system in the city of Tyre.
Why do Hezbollah fighters use pagers?
Since the attack on Israel on October 7 last year, Hezbollah's top leadership has ordered its fighters to use pagers instead of mobile phones or the internet for communication. The reason behind this is that the Israeli army and Mossad continuously track Hezbollah fighters' locations. The specialty of pagers is that their usage cannot be tracked for location.
