An explosion has occurred inside a mosque located in Azam Warsak Bazaar, South Waziristan, Khyber, Pakistan. Reports suggest that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Wana leader and preacher of Maulana Abdul Aziz Mosque, Abdullah Nadeem, was targeted in this attack. Several people, including Maulana Nadeem, were injured in the blast.
Previously, Maulana Abdullah Nadeem had been targeted in a remote-controlled explosion in Kalusha, where he sustained injuries. This latest attack is viewed as a significant second attempt against him. It remains unclear who is responsible for this explosion in the border area with Afghanistan.
The Mosque Was Full for Friday Prayers
According to local media reports, the explosion occurred while many were present for Friday prayers. The injured have been swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where they are being treated. Police and security forces have arrived at the scene, and an investigation is underway.
Explosive Placed on Pulpit
Local media reports state that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam's district chief, Abdullah Nadeem, was severely injured in the bomb blast in South Waziristan's mosque in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This information came from a police officer quoted by Dawn. District police officer Asif Bahadur reported that the explosion occurred at 1:45 PM local time in Maulana Abdul Aziz Mosque, which is situated along Azam Warsak Bypass Road. The explosive was placed in the pulpit where the Imam delivers sermons.
Numerous Attacks on Mosques and Madrasas in Pakistan
Last month, a suicide blast at Darul Uloom Haqqania Madrasa in Nowshera District, KP, killed six people, including JUI-S's Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, and injured 15. On January 30, 2023, an explosion inside a mosque in Peshawar's police line area resulted in the deaths of at least 59 people and injuries to 157 others. Later updates put the number of fatalities at over 100.
In 2022, a major suicide attack occurred at the crowded Jamia Mosque Kucha Risaldar in the old city. The assailant first killed the police officers stationed at the Imambargah's entrance gate and then entered the main hall, where he detonated himself amidst a large number of worshippers gathered for Friday prayers.
