As Bihar elections approach, the opposition is aggressively addressing issues of voter list discrepancies and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Leading the charge for the Grand Alliance, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, has raised voices against the Election Commission.
On Wednesday, Tejashwi accused Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Devi of possessing two voter IDs.
The Election Commission has now taken action by issuing a notice to Nirmala Devi, demanding an explanation within four days regarding her possession of two voter ID cards. Nirmala Devi is required to respond to the Election Commission's notice by 5 PM on August 16.

It is noteworthy that Tejashwi Yadav alleged both Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Devi and her brother-in-law possess two voter ID cards. He also stated Nirmala Devi is affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is an aspirant for an assembly election ticket. She allegedly has two EPIC IDs in the same constituency.

Tejashwi further claimed her brother-in-law holds two voter IDs. Questioning the intentions of the Election Commission, Tejashwi argued that many voters are declared untraceable or deceased, yet no action is taken against BJP leaders preparing for elections with dual voter IDs.
Similar accusations were made by Tejashwi against Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha. The Election Commission has also issued a notice to Vijay Kumar Sinha for a response.
