Election Commission Ramps Up Security with 27 New Central Force Companies in West Bengal

In anticipation of election violence, 27 more companies of central forces are being deployed in West Bengal.

Ever since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has kept a close watch on the voting process in West Bengal. There will be seven-phase voting for their 42 Lok Sabha constituencies. The Election Commission has made heavy deployments of central forces to preempt any election violence. Reports now confirm that the Commission will deploy an additional 27 companies of central forces in the state. These 27 companies are slated to arrive in West Bengal on April 1st.

According to sources from the Election Commission, to curb potential violence during the elections, 27 additional companies of central forces will be deployed. These companies are expected to reach West Bengal by April 1st. Prior to this, 150 companies of central forces had already been stationed in the state and have already begun their marches along various routes.

'A Total of 920 Companies to be Deployed in Bengal'

It is reported that by April 1st, the Election Commission has decided to deploy a total of 177 companies in West Bengal. Furthermore, during the election dates announcement, the Commission had clarified that up to 920 companies of central forces would be deployed for peaceful, free, and fair voting in West Bengal.

Voting for West Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats will take place over all seven phases. The first phase of voting on April 19th will cover Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri. The second phase will see voting in Darjeeling, Raiganj, and Balurghat. The third phase includes Malda North, Malda South, Jangipur, and Murshidabad.

The fourth phase includes Berhampur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Burdwan, Burdwan-Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur, Birbhum. The fifth phase will cover voting in Bangaon, Barrackpore, Howrah, Uluberia, Serampore, Hooghly, Arambagh. The sixth phase includes Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur. The last and seventh phase will see voting in Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Mathurapur, Diamond Harbor, Jadavpur, Kolkata South, Kolkata North.
