The assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, along with by-elections in 14 states, are unfolding with meticulous preparations by the Election Commission. Collaborating with local police, extensive checking operations are underway, leading to the seizure of illegal assets valued in billions.
Assets Worth Over 10 Billion Rupees Seized
In the ongoing Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections, and across the state by-elections, the Election Commission has secured assets totaling more than 10 billion rupees. Maharashtra alone accounted for assets exceeding 6.6 billion rupees, while Jharkhand's valued close to 2 billion rupees.
During by-elections across 14 states, approximately 2.24 billion rupees' worth of assets were confiscated. These include 1.81 billion rupees in cash, liquor valued at 1.19 billion rupees, drugs worth 1.23 billion rupees, and precious metals totaling 3.02 billion rupees.
Gold and Silver Worth Billions Seized in Maharashtra
Recently, Mumbai, Maharashtra's capital, witnessed the confiscation of silver valued at 800 million rupees and gold worth more than 140 million rupees was seized in Nagpur. Furthermore, in Navi Mumbai, two Nigerian nationals were apprehended with narcotics valued at 56.2 million rupees.
Ahead of the assembly elections slated for November 20 in Maharashtra, authorities launched an 'All Out Operation' to curb criminal activities and maintain law and order. This initiative led to the arrest of over 100 individuals.
