Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, continues to face escalating troubles in the Kolkata scandal. During the investigation into alleged financial irregularities linked to Ghosh, the ED has reached a luxurious bungalow in the South 24 Parganas district. According to sources, this two-story villa belongs to Dr. Sandeep Ghosh and his wife Sangeeta Ghosh.
This opulent bungalow is surrounded by hundreds of acres of vacant land. Local residents note that the estate boasts a nameplate inscribed with 'SangeetaSandeep Villa,' named after Ghosh and his wife Sangeeta. Locals often refer to the bungalow as 'Doctor Babu's house,' asserting that Sandeep Ghosh frequently visits the property with his family. Residents also mentioned that several farmhouses have been constructed in the area under Dr. Sandeep Ghosh's direction. The locals have accused him of purchasing large tracts of land in this block.
The ED is investigating alleged financial discrepancies during Sandeep Ghosh's tenure as principal of RG Kar Hospital. As part of this, several raids took place on September 6 in Kolkata and its suburbs, including Ghosh's home and properties belonging to his relatives.
The ED registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against Sandeep Ghosh, equivalent to an FIR in criminal cases. Currently, Sandeep Ghosh is in CBI custody, as the central investigating agency arrested him and three associates earlier this month on corruption charges.
This case began following accusations from Dr. Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Hospital. He alleged that Dr. Ghosh had engaged in wasteful expenditure of government funds, nepotism, and irregularities in vendor selection and appointments. Dr. Ali also suggested that the death of a female resident doctor might be connected to these corrupt practices, claiming that the deceased doctor had knowledge of these scams.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court dismissed Ghosh's petition challenging the Calcutta High Court's decision to reject his request to be involved as a stakeholder in the corruption case. The court stated that Ghosh, as an accused, has no legal right to interfere in the case.
