Epicenter Near This Lake in Delhi, Known for Frequent Quakes

Early Monday morning, intense earthquake tremors rocked the Delhi-NCR region. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake registered a magnitude of 4.0. Reports indicate the epicenter was in New Delhi. An official informed news agency PTI that the epicenter was near the Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education, Dhaula Kuan. This quake struck at 5:36 AM at a depth of five kilometers. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported.

An official mentioned that the epicenter's vicinity hosts a lake, an area historically prone to earthquakes every two to three years. Notably, a magnitude of 3.3 was recorded here in 2015.

At New Delhi railway station, passengers told news agency ANI it felt like a train was rumbling underground. One remarked, 'Everything was swaying.' A vendor at the station noted customers began to panic and scream as tremors shook the area. Another passenger, awaiting their train, shared with ANI, 'Although brief, the quake's strength made it seem as if a train was rushing past at high speed.'
