In the Maharajganj area of Bahraich district, UP, on Sunday, a procession for the immersion of the Durga idol faced stone-pelting, shooting, and arson. Two individuals were gravely injured; one succumbed during treatment at the hospital. In response to this incident, a police force has been deployed in the entire area. After Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's stern response, the in-charge of the Hardi police station and the outpost in-charge were suspended for negligence.

This incident pertains to Rehua Mansoor village in the Hardi police station area. On Sunday evening, a procession was underway for the immersion of Goddess Durga's idol. The procession was making its way past Abdul Hamid's house when unknown individuals began pelting stones at the idols. Amidst the stone-throwing, some miscreants also opened fire. Ram Gopal Mishra (22), son of Kailash Nath from Rehua Mansoor village, was shot, along with another person who was injured.

The immersion resumed under tight security

Both injured young men were taken to the district hospital, but one passed away during treatment at Bahraich Medical College. Upon receiving this news, people heading for the immersion resorted to vandalism, setting vehicles and houses on fire. Reports indicate that four houses were burned. Following this violence and arson, the idol immersion was halted but later resumed with police forces in the area ensuring security.

CM Yogi takes cognizance of the incident

CM Yogi Adityanath promptly acknowledged the incident, tweeting that those disturbing peace in Bahraich's Mahasi will not be spared. There's a guarantee of security for all, yet directives have been issued to identify the culprits responsible for the chaos. Idol immersion will proceed. Administrative and police officials are instructed to coordinate with religious organizations to ensure timely immersion.

The Chief Minister also emphasized identifying those whose negligence led to the incident and taking disciplinary actions against them. Following CM Yogi's instructions, Bahraich SP Vrinda Shukla took strict action, suspending Hardi police station's SO Suresh Verma and Mahasi outpost in-charge Shivkumar for negligence.
